  SWR stands for standing wave ratio.  It's singular since there is only one
  swr per antenna.  The best way to check it is with the talking swr bridge
  from LDG.  I  have one but forget the model number but some one on the 
list
  will have it.  The lower the SWR, the better.  Generally, anything under 
2/1
  is what you want to shoot for.  A  good SWR means that the transmitter is
  happy wwith the load that the antenna is presenting to it.  It may or may
  not mean that the antenna is a n  efficient signal radiator.  Lou
