Yes, darn it, I should have mentioned QuickMix, which I use every time I need to switch devices with all of their unique settings. It is a real help and quite a time savings for any user, sighted or blind. Lyle, K0LR, our Radio Camp engineer, told me about it. What a great program.

Pat, great post.  To save the hastle with the sound card levels, try 
quickmix from http://www.jfwlite.com
   It allows you to save and load audio configurations.
