I'm guessing grom the age and speed that this is probably a PII, with
minimal support for AGP (if any). Is there video on the motherboard? Is
there a video card installed?
Which video does the CMOS config say to use at boot?

(I'm thinking that there's some issue with the first PCI peripheral card,
and that 64% could be about where the installation is trying to set up video
drivers....)

She has lost the Sony restore disc so I've been trying to fix her computer (or part of the problem by reinstalling WIN ME Ver 4.90.3000. The persistant message on startup is a Sony splash screen with the message at the bottom that says:

Tried reinstalling Windows about ten times and it always froze up around 64%. She's a poor graduate student and can't really afford to invest in another computer right now. Can anybody help?
