Hi,

At the risk of asking the very obvious......  have you installed the drivers 
for the drive?

most versions of win xp  install the drivers automatically for most models 
but if non xp then there may  be a need to install the correct drivers.

I installed the software disc that came with the drive but this is  the only 
computer of the four that didn't automatically detect the drive. All  are 
running xp home.
 
I am suspecting wrong voltage now as David Gillett suggested.
