Sometimes you will be faked out because you have set the Acrobat reader to
display one page at a time and the first page is a sort of cover sheet with
no text on it.  Try going to the next page with ctrl-PgDn if it is loading
in single pages.  Also try the various menu items which can tell you about
the properties and security settings of the document.
