I was curious about the amount of power that my computer equipment used; so,
I picked up one of those Kill-A-Watt meters that Mark R. mentioned. I was
interested in getting a better sense of just how much power supply capacity
was really necessary, and I wondered how much I was paying the power company
for my computer usage. I wrote up the results, which can be found at the
following link. (I did this about a year ago, and I haven't updated it with
information on my latest hardware, yet.)

I didn't have a 19" LCD to test at the time, but I gathered that they draw
about 35 watts of power when in use. I assume that they use only 1 or 2
watts when they power down into sleep mode.

How much power does a standard desktop consume? What about a 19' LCD
monitor? Is there a difference when it goes in sleep mode?
