Phil,
Just to let you know,Rick Warren doesn't exactly float my boat
either. I have my concerns and doubts. His nitch is definitely not
mine, but I do appreciate a lot that he has put out for the sake of
discussion. Who knows how it will all pan out.

I think about what Paul said in Philippians 1:15-19.

It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but
others out of good will. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am
put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out
of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up
trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The
important thing is that in every way, whether false motives or true,
Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

I have no clue where Rick's heart is. I know, for example, that he
practices reverse tithing. By that, he means that he gives away %90
and lives on %10. I know that he has been involved in a lot of
mission projects and that he talks a lot about Christians being
active in service, not just bench warmers at church. I suppose that
he is a lot more ecumenical in his views both theologically and
politically, but, guess what, Billy Gram says that he is moving in
the same direction and has been doing so for a long time. I remember
the shake up in the conservative community in the early 90s when Gram
announced that he had moved to ecumenism. I don't know how it will
all turn out. What I do know is this, truth is truth and whatever
way God truly says things should be is truth. We are sinners, saved
by grace, but our understanding is tainted by our upbringing, our
theology and our surroundings. I would think that you, of all people,
would understand this because of the criticisms that you have
received for being a spirit filled, charismatic Baptist. GRIN! You
have mentioned before that both camps say that you're wrong, but you
stay focused on Christ, despite what they say, and this is as it should be.
I know that God knows Rick Warren's heart. If Rick has
gone astray from God's will, God will deal with him, and probably
severely, because he is in leadership. If he is not of God, he will
suffer for it. I just don't see where it is my place to sit in
judgment over him. I hope that you can understand the distinction
that I am making here. If not, then God forgive me for being such a
poor communicator.
Kathy
