Ok, well basically there is no gluten in Coffee. However, then it gets
into the different brands, store-bought pre-ground, Starbucks, Dunkin
Donuts, instants, flavored, and so forth.
IN THIS COUNTRY, the FDA requires them to state what is in it. Other
countries, probably no such requirement from government agencies.
Therefore, it may be that there is added barley in some ground coffee
that is not labeled as such.
Instant coffee, according to some members, has given them some severe
reactions. As do many flavored coffees, and the little teabag type
coffee things.
The flavoring depends on how its made, and it varies from company to
company.
Most seem to agree that Dunkin Donuts is safe at least the French
Vanilla and plain, except for one member who had a bad reaction from a
pound of ground unflavored coffee from them. Apparently some of the
plants process gluten containing things on the same lines, and if the
cleaning isn't efficient enough, there can be cross-contamination.
No specific comments on Starbucks or any of the brands found on grocery
store shelves. Just if you aren't sure, call the company. and even so,
one never really knows because there can be other factors, like the
cross-contamination issue.
