We just returned from a lovely long weekend in Sedona, AZ and I thought I'd pass on to you my experience. Thank you so much to those of you who responded to my request before my trip. I received suggestions for Picazzo's Pizza and L'Auberge French restaurant; it was great advice.
We flew into Phoenix and filled a cooler with g-f crackers, cheese, shrimp, and fruit at the Whole Foods in Tempe before driving to Sedona. That gave us delicious breakfasts, snacks, and lunches for our trip. Then we hit Pizza Piccazzo, also in Tempe. This is an amazing and wonderful chain. They had a full 3 page menu of gluten free appetizers, salads, and pizzas. Everything was delicious. They also serve g-f beer and wonderful g-f desserts. The manager said that people taste the g-f pizza and cry, it's so good. I got teary just seeing the menu!
In Sedona we stayed at the Country Garden Bed and Breakfast. The owner said her son was g-f for years, and she was able to serve me two wonderful g-f breakfasts. We had hoped to try the Picazzos in Sedona as well, but we were too busy eating our fresh food from Whole Foods. One night we splurged at L'Auberge, a French restaurant overlooking the river. The food was delicious. I'm not sure how familiar the chef was with g-f, per se, but I explained my needs to the server, and they were very accommodating. They checked all the labels and ingredients and reported back to me. The server said the chef was well versed in allergy issues and was careful about cross-contamination. I had a delicious gazpacho with crab, swordfish with yogurt curry sauce, and for dessert, a wonderful creme brulee.
Everything went well for us. If you are ever in Sedona, Tempe, or Scotsdale, please check out Picazzo's. They have a website at www.picazzos.com How I would love to find a place like that on the East Coast!
Be well,
Elizabeth
