I would do two things:

1) Change the view to a tree view with either ctrl/pagedown or shift-pagedown (I forget which). 

Also, go into your preferences and change the PTT from the spacebar
to, say, the right ctrl key, and check the "momentary" box (so it acts
like a PTT).
