I know some one who does all kinds of packet with his TS-2000, it works fine 
but that TNC is very limited, no mailbox, a lot of settings aren't there 
that make things easier but it's good in a pinch or for the casual user and 
for APRS and the DX clusters it's perfect. All you need for those is there. 
I was helping a friend last week set his up for working on the local BBS and 
that took a while. I like my KPC3 for that purpose much better *smile*
