Hello listmates,
I know that you have heard it before but I can't help but praise Walt
Disneyworld for it's attention to the gluten free diet. We spent the past
week there and it was wonderful. I got all the information on what and where
to eat by emailing - [log in to unmask] - no relation, but I
never thought it would be so easy and enjoyable.
When you order at the "take out/walk ups" the cashier calls for a manager
who supervises the entire meal order and prep. Hot dogs, burgers with GF
buns, Amy's Pizza, fries in a dedicated fryer are everywhere. Salads with
Ken's dressings and a variety of fresh fruit, ice cream, and even GF
brownies and cookies are available in many places. We ate at many "table
service" spots. The best was Tony's Town Square where my daughter feasted on
GF hot dinner rolls, spaghetti and meatballs. The chef at the hotel made
gluten free pancakes that were better than the regular ones my husband
ordered .The chefs at all the restaurants pretty much said they could modify
most anything on the menu or just make anything you would want. I can't
compliment Disney enough about the detail and respect they showed to the
gluten free diet. Everyone was kind, patient and knowledgeable.
My post can be summed up by the following remark made by my 21 yr. old
celiac daughter's long time boyfriend. He had never been to Disneyworld so
you can imagine his awe of the attractions. When he was packing up to return
home my daughter asked, "What was your favorite thing at Disneyworld?" He
smiled at her an said, "Don't tell your mom, since she will cry, but my
favorite thing at Disneyworld was watching you eat and enjoy your meals".
Obviously she told me and more obviously....I cried. It was a magical
vacation in more ways than one.
Always remember the magic,
KathyB
