OK. I did all that was suggested by Brian. Now when I go to Control Panel/Phone and Modem Options/Modems nothing shows up at all. It did not detect a modem when I restarted. No plug and play seems to be here either. I inserted the Toshiba Recovery disc and saw only "Toshiba Software Modem 21.22 (SM2122ALD05). I reinstalled this and still have no modem recognized. I know the phone line works because it works find when connected to my desktop computer.
What do I try now? Laurel Schmalz

With Windows XP you can try the following:

1. Left-Click on the START button. Select Control Panel.
2a. If you get the Blue screen that says Pick a Category, select Performan=
ce and Maintenance, then System.
2b. If you get the white background with lots of icons on it , select Syst=
em.
3. Left-Click on the Hardware tab.
4. Left-Click the Device Manager button.
5. Left-Click on the little plus (+) sign in front of the Modems entry o=
n the list.
6. Right-Click on the name of your modem and select Uninstall.
7. Re-Boot your computer. Windows should find the modem and ask you to i=
nstall the driver software.
