There are a couple of startup utilities by Mike Lin on:

I've used them for years. They are simple and effective.

To remove unwanted registry entries, try JV16 Ver 1.3
It's available on:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=jv16
Ver 1.3 is an old version that won't expire.

Don't know if these will solve the uninstall problem, 
but they may help and for sure won't hurt.
