Oh goodness, don't whistle! A steady carrier should do the trick just
fine. (Yes, the cw position on your radio really is good for
something, evenif you don't do cw.) It's the easiest way to get a
steady signal. There's effectively no power when you're keyed on SSB
with no audio, and any audio you get will vary your power, so shouting
"Oooooooooooooooooo...la!" into your radio will probably not be nearly
so effective as some carrier.
