Hi.

Well, my G5RV went up in the rain also, and now it only seems to work 
really well when it is raining out!  Go figure!

Rich, I think if you get a move on, you've still got time to get something 
up before winter sets in.  I've done antenna work as late as late 
December.  In fact, when I got my novice ticket, my first station went on 
the air between college semesters--in the week between Christmas and New 
Year's Day.  Admittedly, the weather was pretty quiet, but I think you 
still have a little time.  Yes, for those who were wondering, I did grow up 
in the Lake Erie snow belt in southern Genesee County, so this isn't an 
apples and oranges comparison.
