Since the computer operates without problems without the second drive
and since the second drive comes from a computer that "crashed", the
hard drive very likely has an electrical and/or mechanical problem. I
believe this likelihood was mentioned before. It probably has at least
an electrical short.

If the data on it is really important, you could have it tested to see
if it can be physically repaired. Once that is done, you may still have
a problem accessing the data on it and that would require further
assistance.

Unless you have some tech friends with test equipment, you are looking
at some cost(s). It really comes down to a cost/benefit decision.

Good luck.

I thought I could add it as a slave drive and do it that way but the minute it's hooked to the computer, there is the shut off problem--it never even gets to boot point, just on-then bloop, off again.
