What burning software is he using? I'm not sure what relevance WMP has to
your question---is he trying to burn disks using WMP?

What sort of CD's is he trying to burn? Are they copy-protected?

The Sony should have come with a burning software disk--usually Nero or Roxio.

Data disks can be burned by dragging a folder containing the contents of
the disk onto the CD icon in My Computer. This will open XP's Burning
Wizard which is excellent for simple data copying.
