Are these the _original_ IBM keyboards as supplied with the very first IBM
PC models or the later, less heavy-duty IBM keyboard? The later ones had a
metal outside case, but it was sort of rough to the touch, whereas the
originals were smooth to the touch and weighed considerably more. It sounds
from your message like these may be the original design. I well remember
that original model--it weighed a ton (especially compared to today's
all-plastic keyboards) and the only plastic on it was in the key caps. I've
often wished I'd have saved mine when I sold my original IBM PC (the one
with no hard drive, 2 5.25-inch floppy drives, and a whopping 512 K of
memory*).
* And it took some very specialized customization by someone who knew the
mother board to even get _that_ much memory. From the factory, the max you
could get was, as I remember, 480 K!

I'll also note (in the vein of nice keyboards) that one can still get
keyboards in the style of the old school IBM keyboards (think clicky
PS/2 keyboards...you know...the ones that weight like five or six
pounds.) They can be had in either PS/2 style connector or USB.
Of course, they're not done by IBM anymore, but the design was sold
to another company. They can be had at:

(assuming that I pulled the right Email...LOL)
