Just The Name Of Jesus Will Work

By Phil Scovell

I was sick. I was not only nauseous but I ached all over.
It felt like the flue. I wanted to get some work done but I was
just too weak and physically distracted to do much more than sit
in the living room and sulk.

My life had changed a great deal over the last few months. I
had been studying about prayer, how to get my prayers answered,
healing, and the promises of God. I tried thinking about all
these things but I was getting sicker by the minute.

Suddenly, it was time. I jumped up and ran for the bathroom.
After trying unsuccessfully to vomit into the open toilet,
something I'm sure none of you have ever attempted before, I felt
worse. Something was really wrong. Pain became a real living
thing about this point in my life and I tried to pray as I dry
heaved a couple of more times. There's no experience like trying
to cough up your toenails into something as degrading as a
commode. I tried to pray before the worst happened and the only
word that came out of my mouth was, "Jesus!" It probably sounded
about as desperate as Peter when he began to sink in the water,
"Lord, save me!" Instantly, my stomach stopped rolling, the pain
diminished, and in less than a minute, I felt totally normal. The
word "Jesus" had been the only word I had spoken.

The name of Jesus alone is so powerful, the Bible says that
we can be instantly born again by invoking it. "For whosoever
shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved," (Romans
10:13).

The word used in the Bible for "Saved," in this case, is
"sozo" in the Greek. It is a microcosm of theological complexity.

If you looked up the word in the Strong's concordance, here
is what you will find.

The Greek word (sozo) is translated "saved" some 93 times in the
King James Version, it is also translated "make whole" 9 times,
furthermore, it is rendered by the King James translators "heal" 3
times, "be whole" 2 times, and 3 times in miscellaneous
applications. this makes for a grand total of 110 usages.

The Strong's definition is as follows:

To save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or
destruction, As from injury or peril, as in danger, to save a
suffering one, as from perishing, I.e. one suffering from disease,
to make well, heal, restore to health to preserve one who is in
danger of destruction, and to save or rescue, and to save in the
technical biblical sense, such as in being born again, in other
words.

and hear you thought you were just saved from sin and hell. Look
it up for yourself if you doubt my words. I trust you won't doubt
His Word's when you do get around to looking it up. Most
importantly, I trust we all will begin using the sozo the way it
was supposed to be applied for the Bible Believer. Don't limit
god's Word.

He's ready when you are.
