It's easy to stop once you have a diagnosis.  However, looking at the
symptoms several mimick low thyroid. Having seen many other disorders
disappear with proper treatment makes me aware that sometimes the cure for a
problem is thyroid medicine.  Asthma, neuropathy, proper absorption of
vitamins and minerals, lots and lots of other problems go away with proper
treatment.

It wouldn't surprise me to find this was somehow related to low thyrod.
However, it is hard to convince a parent with a diagnosis until they've
wasted years of their child's life unnecessarily because they believed an
incompetent doctor.  (That is, most doctors are incompetent about all the
things low thyroid can do.)  I would look at his symptoms and particularly
make sure his temperature was normal, if it was low I would suspect this to
be entertwined with a thryoid problem.

Doc Don on the list tells us much of Down's Syndrome is really just
hypothyroidism, a mother on the list tells us her daughter was diagnosed
autistic, but it really turned out to be hypothyroidism.

So, first make sure there are no thyroid implications.

my opinion.
