Hi, 

assuming this is epson perfection 3590 scanner, it is USB 2.0 device. I am not sure if your motherboard supports USB 2.0, but even if not "most" usb 2.0 devices are backward compatible with USB 1.0 OR 1.1 whatever it is.

I would suggest you unplug the scanner and boot your system and THEN connect the scanner to your USB port.

if this does not work pl get back to the list for more suggestions.
