The term "high technology" refers to intensive research and development
activities and the results. Others and I suggest that the basis of science is
research, discovery, and learning nature. Technology connotes utilizing the
results.
Science education follows therefrom. Thus research of underwater basketweaving
(akin to the Olympic activity of underwater ballet) is science to be sure,
though it may contribute little economic value to society except to those who
value the activity.
