It is surprising what actually holds buildings up. We might think it is
steel, and granite, and mortar. But really it is "bulbs of pressure" and
things even more ethereal, like trust. Trust? Yes, that "social
adhesive" that assures you can count on people to behave in certain
ways. For example, a trust that someone would not purposely fly an
airplane into a building is what held up the twin towers, until 9/11
when the trust failed and the towers promptly fell down.
