Are you sure that is RG74 and not RG174? The RG174 is a 50-ohm flexible cable. However, I wouldn't use it at VHHF for more than ten feet or so because its loss at 100MHz is probably above 8DB. But, for short runs, and on HF it is probably Ok.
I would recommend you look at the specs for your particular brand of cable as to power handling. Certainly, the normal transceiver output is fine on HF, but I don't think I'd run a full amplifier with a pair of 3-500Z's through it.

I recently installed a long wire by running it through an open window
and then closing the window on it. I then realized that I could do the same
by using a piece of RG 74 as a jumper and using heaver coax on either side
of the jumper. How much power can I run through RG74 and what is the normal
impedance of this coax?
