Hi.
I was offended by one of the posts last night. It was suggesting that one
might unsubscribe from the list and was then followed by a copy of a very
offensive message sent by an unscrupulous individual who was recently
booted off the list. I do not have a problem with the person expressing
outrage at such depraved and immoral language, but I DO have a problem with
compounding the infraction by having a copy of the offensive message at the
bottom of your message. Find some way to reference the message without
making all of us read that filth again.
And, when someone starts using such language, I think everyone would do
well to use the filtering capabilities of Outlook, Outlook Express, or
Eudora to block the messages from such an individual. It is a lot harder
with web based mail, and I don't have a good solution for such a person,
but once we establish that a person is dealing in bad faith, the only thing
that can make a bad situation worse is to continue to engage him or
her. It's hard to resist telling some one that they are a pig, and it
might make you feel better, but it generally doesn't cause the person to go
away or change their behavior. It causes the situation to escalate to what
we had with this offensive message. I think this might have been a
learning experience for all of us, myself included.
Let's not respond once we reach the point where we start to see something
like this spinning out of control, and for the sake of decency, when
someone posts a message using what all of us would probably is gutter
language, let's not compound the offense by repeating it.
.
Thank you.
