Nadaland Stations
Sodium lamp shafts pass my sight
by windows of small stations there --
empty sign boards, the named ramps
meaningless to my light.
Nothing happens, in there dead flat
benched rows of tired frozen faces
observe floor grunge and cig butt-ends,
darkened late to zednight.
Whistle pity wakes us fully --
stopped, train stopped, pausing there,
leaving something, changed but remains
meaningless.
Friends we boarded, the train quite full,
-- now so alone, pressing onward
spreading more room, empty wagon
empty heart.
Small stations lilt behind windows,
sodium lamp shafts pressing one
board holding name for myself; now
leaving this leaving coach
-- birthing outside
alone.
