Concerning consolidation and repair of wood such as windows and doors:
There are a number of epoxy systems on the market. But both Martin Weaver and
John Ashurst recommend acrylic resins (methyl methacrylate) for use in wood
consolidation and repair, because it is reversible.
Question: Are any of the currently available wood repair systems acrylic
based?
Question: Have any of you found acrylic resins to perform as well as epoxy
resins? Have you found acrylic resins to truly be "reversible" in such a
large scale application (for instance, wood window sills)?
Question: Here's the big one: Of the epoxy systems, which ones have you had
success with -- some examples: Abatron, Repair Care Systems, Gushjon (sp?)
Brothers, Advanced System Repair, etc. I suspect that their use is regional
-- for instance Abatron, manufactured in Milwaukee, is used quite often in the
Chicago area.
Thanks much! Good to get feedback -- Anne Sullivan, Chicago
