Richard:
the whole point of the software is to be able to personally program the radio
easily on the PC. It is specifically not set up to automatically set the
offset direction because often the software is used to program odd offsets.
For instance, on one of our local repeaters, the frequency is 147.060, but it
has a negative offset. With the radio, the offset direction is automatically
posative because it is above 147.000, however, in the software, it allows you
to easily set the offset direction without having to reset a menu item. So,
yes, it does in fact require some amount of brain work and perhaps an extra tab
and arrow key press, but you still have to manually set the offset direction.
As for the offset frequency, with my software, it is already set to 600 for
anything on 2m and 5 megs for anything on 70CM and 1 meg for anything on 6M.
Not sure why yours isn't doing that. Perhaps reset all defaults in the
software and it will reappear. Remember, just because it is software, doesn't
mean it takes away all user input or need for intelligent consideration or
operation.
