I lost out a bit on this thread.  Are you looking toward a hand held?  At 
that range, unless you're line of sight, an h t will be spotty.  As I said 
in an earlier post, if you really need the portability, an ht is the way, 
but  you may have to put up an outside antenna to be reliable.  A lot of 
ways to go.
