Hi there Colin,

Yes, as far as I'm aware the 847 is the only rig manufactured by Yaesu which 
is capable of taking a speech synthesizer for a number of years.  I would 
have loved the option for my 1000MP.  I've often wondered why the 847 seems 
to be unique in this respect.

I was hoping the successor to the 1000mp
(the ft-2000mp) might have the option of speech output,but alas from what 
I've read it looks unlikely.

Even the very top-end ftdx9000 lacks provision for a speech chip, so yet 
again Yaesu have neglected to give any consideration to accessibility.  It's 
unfortunate as Yaesu HF rx performance is excellent.
