Phil,

Speaking as someone who has been using DSL for the past 6 years, I'm
quite happy with it. I don't know how it compares to cable because
I've never had cable, which may be an indirect statement of how well
I like DSL. The only issue I've ever heard of with DSL occurs if
you're not close enough to the switching unit (about 3 miles). If
you're too far away, DSL is very slow and unreliable, so make sure
you're within the limit set by your ISP. Some people dislike the
idea of putting filters on every phone in the house, but they're
easily obtained from RS, and once you plug them in, you just forget about them.

I have trouble making objective statements about download speed
because it can vary depending on things like the traffic on the
Internet at the time you're downloading a file. I have heard that
cable can slow down when several people in your neighborhood use the
Internet at the same time, but I don't really know how big an issue
that is. Apparently, it's not an issue with DSL because each phone
line is an individual connection, rather than being part of a
neighborhood network.

That's my two cents worth on the subject.

Steve
