Well Guys,
We've heard from Chris. Actually, we've heard from Chris twice this
week. The first time that he called was Sunday evening. I believe
that he was making sure that I was watching the super bowl. We had a
pretty good talk and I invited him to come out some time so that we
could talk in person about some of the decisions that he is
making. He seemed interested in hearing what I had to say, and
definitely miserable where he is living now. Then, I could hear
Nicki, in the back ground, hollering for him and he had to go.
We had also heard from the school about Chris's latest. Chris is
still failing everything and he was offered a supportive study hall,
but turned it down because, in supportive study hall, he would have
to work. In regular study hall he can do whatever he likes. At
first we were all hopeful because it looked as though he were going
to take advantage of a supportive study hall to try to bring up his
grades, but, alas, Thursday morning, his advisor called me to let me
know that Chris had backed out and when she walked past regular study
hall, where he is now, he was just sitting in the back chatting to a
neighbor. Too bad. Anyway, I mention this phone call from school so
that you will understand how we continue to know that Chris's
attitude hasn't changed much so that you will understand my response
to Chris the next time he called me personally on Thursday afternoon.
Chris: Hey Mom, how's it goin'?
Me: Okay Chris, how are you?
Chris: Good, good! Hey, guess what?
Me: What?
Chris: I might be moving back in with you guys.
Me: (in shock)! Oh, really? Why?
Chris: Because I can't stand it here.
Me: Well, Chris, you can't just move back.
Chris: Why Not?
Me: Well, because I don't think that you've changed. We would have
to talk about this.
Chris: Talk about what?
Me: Well Chris, you can't come back home with out us talking about
it first and laying some ground rules.
Chris: What?
Me: Have you changed Chris?
Chris: Gotta go Mom. (click)
that was the conversation. We haven't heard anything since. I can't
give any analysis. I'm just reporting the facts. Howsever, in my
opinion, it doesn't quite sound like the prodigal is ready to come home yet.
