Thanks all for your comments.

I will look at the handy mike.  I used to hold the 444 by its base and treat it 
like a hand mike.  A bit clumsey but never before found a handheld unit 
that I got reasonable reports with.

Looking for something that has a good response, not high pitched and 
screachy for the dx or with that excessive bottom end, just good rounded 
communications.
