Hi.

When I bought mine, time I bought a better microphone, VS3 voice 
synthesizer, and suitable cable for programming the radio, I was probably 
up between $1600 and $1700.  Fortunately I already had a good husky power 
supply, so I didn't have to worry about that expense.

P.S. The radio control software is about eighty some odd dollars from 
Kenwood, but the MCP2000 Memory Control Package is a free download, and in 
my opinion is all that you really need.  It does a superb job of making the 
menus accessible.  You could navigate the menus without the software if you 
were careful, but the software makes it vastly easier.
