Hi;
I thought things were adding up to around 1,600.00. Does the radio use the
same menu arrangement that we see with other rigs and if so does the cw
option give you a menu number or try and tell you what the function is?
Also, I am certain I saw a list of folks who wanted to build the thing (for
a price of course) but I have no idea where. I'm not buying tomorrow but it
sounds like something worth looking into. I have no issues with kenwood but
a change might be nice. Sounds like the tuner is external and sits under
the rig. Is that the case?
Rich

Rich:

The kx1 is their newest rig. It is a small rig, about 3 by 6 by 1.5
inches. It covers 80, 40, 30, and 20 meters with all options.
Power out is up to 5 watts, depending on power source.
It also includes general coverage receive from approximately 3 to 16 mhz,
and includes an auto tuner, and adjustable crystal filter.

It is cw only, and outputs all information from the screen in cw.

Power is from 7 to 14 volts dc, with an optional internal battery holder
for 6 double a cells.
This is billed as a pedestrian / backpacker rig, and it is admirable for
that.
I plan to take it to field day this year, and give it a good workout.

As for the k2, there are many options for it, including dsp, autotuner,
internal 12 volt 2.9 ah jell cell, ssb, transverter interface, etc.
If you get the k2, you will want the krc2 with accessibility option.
This plugs into the optional serial port, and provides the cw output for
controls and display.

The receiver of the k2 is a single conversion design, and is not general
coverage. However, it does extend above and below the ham bands to a
limited extent.
It is very quiet, sensitive, and selective.

For the full blown deal, including 100 watt amplifier, you are looking at
15 or 16 hundred dollars, but remember this is a contest quality rig.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to write.
