I understand that some work is occurring that will use the overhead
flourescent lights as modulated radiators to allow for indoor g.p.s.
mapping functions. I do not think it is out of the labs yet however.

Thank you!

Hi Folks, wonder if you can help me here. I'm a lifetime blind/except
for
light perception, longtime ham who's thankfully now working in a
_large
super center type facility. I carry an Icom IC-t90A with me, and I'm
Trying
To Figure a dependable time efficient way to get from one established
point
to another established point in that facility where much of the
interveening
landscape/storescape constantly changes.
Is there any kind of transmitter-receiver system, or just transmitting
device which emits a carrier with tone or anything else, which would
give
you an audible indication, IE, pitch rising or falling, pulses
increasing or
decreasing in speed, or something similar, as you were getting closer
to,
or farther away from the transmitter? A stronger S/strength signal on
a
meter won't help, unless a sighted person walks with me, which defeats
the
whole purpose here. Fellow employees, managers, and other Folks both
have
been, and are very helpful, in terms of rendering assistance to and
from
places in the store, but I don't like to take people "off task" to do
it,
and placement of racks and so forth is changeable enough that simply
counting steps, etc, doesn't cut it. Any suggestions you have would
be
greatly appreciated, thanks, Danny Dyer, Wb4idu.
