Hi,

I just bought a new 900MHZ Uniden phone for $9.99 cause one of my cordless 
phones bit the dust.  This is a basic analog phone without caller id, but 
for $10.00 I wasn't looking for many features.  I don't have the phone yet, 
but I'm hoping the range is better than two tin cans attached with string.

I've never heard of an option like that on any cordless phone,
although I believe that some of them will increase power on their own
if the reception degrades.  You may also find that some brands have
better range than others, and sometimes different models of a
particular brand are better than others.  Unfortunately, the models
change so quickly that even if you know which ones were good six
months ago, it won't help you today.  I had very good luck with one
model of GE, but when I bought a different model, I couldn't even get
20 foot coverage.  It might help if you tell the sales person that
you need a phone with lots of range, but then again, you may still
not know until you get it home and try it.  You may find that you
have to spend more to get the coverage you need.
