I had to do that to replace a CD burner once.
An even exchange, model for model... (Twins...)

The slightest difference will (or can) send Windows into a
tail spin...  The LESS the difference, the WORSE it is,
mostly because Windows is not real good at subtle differences,
only GROSS ones...

This is especially true if the USB device does not adhear to
the unique ID number support required by the specs...
(Older USB stuff was REALLY sloppy about that...)
