Hi guys,
Well, here's the latest on Chris. It's really a mixed bag of sorts,
but it's what I'm working with.

He received his placement from the Life program yesterday. He is in
a two bedroom apartment, shared with another guy, his girlfriend and
a baby. Chris doesn't think that the director of the program knows
about the girl friend and baby, but he doesn't want to say anything
for fear of looking like a "snitch," and making for an even more
uncomfortable living situation. When I commented to him that it
didn't sound like his living situation had improved much, he said,
"well, at least they aren't doing drugs." We are thinking about
taking it upon ourselves to call the director of the program next
week just to give him a heads up about the situation, and leave it at that.
Chris is with Greg this morning to cheer Caleb on in his first
wrestling match. Greg Picked Chris up this morning from his new
apartment and brought him back here for breakfast. I offered to do
Chris's laundry and he took me up on the offer, so I'm staying home
to take care of that. I don't mind though. It may give Greg and
Chris some guy time together. Chris and I find it much easier to
talk to each other. If I were there, I just don't think that Chris
would get the fatherly attention that he really needs. I have a hard
time keeping quiet sometimes. I know, that may seem hard to
believe!! GRIN! But, its true. After the meet, Greg is going with
Chris over to Nicki's parents' house to pick up the rest of his
things and move them to his new apartment.
The vice principal called yesterday morning and Chris has
exceeded the amount of detensions andsuspensions allowed. The vice
principal invited us to a meeting about Chris on Monday morning,
which Chris has begged us not to attend. I've decided to honor
Chris's request that I not show up, but I will talk to the vice
principal privately either before or after the meeting. I have to
agree with Chris that our showing up would be pretty pointless
anyway. It's hard to stay home because we are concerned parents, but
Chris is 18 now and our showing up isn't going to change his self
motivation any. He has to do that himself. If he feels that
strongly about our not attending, it may set our fragile relationship
back a pace and it just isn't worth that.
This life program that he is involved with now assures Chris that
they can help him still get his G.E.D. and get into the army at
least. Chris is still just looking for the path of least resistance
and it is a waste of breath to point out that a little hard work
never hurt anybody.
In his attitude, Chris seems a bit depressed to me. He and Nicki
are still going together. Rats!! Oh well. We're still just having
to take life one day at a time, as does everybody.
God bless,
Kathy
