Can we as imperfect human beings ever be totally faithful?

"He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose
walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the
way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair--every good path." --Proverbs 2:7-9
We talk, and I've stated and also thought that things happen in the world
and we aren't protected from the freewill of others to do damage to us or
our property. Does not the above scripture state that if we are indeed
faithful, just and followers, that god will protect us?
Curious. Perhaps we think we are being just and faithful, when perhaps we
are not. I mean I could excuse things away and give a boiler plate
Christian answer, but the fact things happen and we seem to be out of that
shield of protection at times, sure causes one to strive for more
faithfulness and justness and to indeed just put God in mind in
everything, always.
