Sharon,
Although chocolate and stuffed toys may not be a form of sustenance which
the below Scripture refers, it is a matter of the heart which does, your
heart, towards those who you feel are somewhat less fortunate or in a
need, that you sacrifice in part or in full, your own blessing. Also
evident of this is your question of what you can learn from this
situation, again, a heart matter.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed
by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since
the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to
eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger
and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and
you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me" Matthew
25:34-36

this story about being like Jesus reminded me of what happened to me
today.
We have a deaf woman coming to Daybreak now, named Ronita (not sure how
it's spelled.). She goes to work at a pizza place every day, so she's
probably occupied there, but I wonder if she feels left out at Daybreak,
because one of our facilitators, Suzanne, has a very difficult time
communicating with her, it seems. I talked with Suzanne about it, since I
know what it's like to have severe hearing loss, and what works for
me. Well, today we had our Easter party. I got 6 eggs from the egg hunt,
with candy inside, except one of them had one of nine prizes inside, which
I redeemed for a $5 Walmart gift card. The idea came to me that maybe I
should give Ronita some of my candy. No, I didn't want to! I told the
lord I wasn't willing, and asked him to make me willing and help me to
want to. Then, during our last activity, in which Suzanne called out
numbers for door prizes, Ronita was presented with a tough dilema; She's
diabetic, so she couldn't have the chocolates that were being offered. I
got Suzanne's attention and offered one of my stuffed animals I'd won
today. I got the candy in trade! It wasn't too difficult to give up my
stuffed prize, as I don't really like them unless the fur is real. So,
what am I supposed to learn from this? I'd like your input!
thanks!
