Hi Tom;
I can't speak for all computers but I have seen a laptop that has a button 
on the system tray.  You then get into a section that lets you adjust the 
sensitivity of the touch pad.
Nothing quite as annoying as touching a touch pad when you don't intend to.

Folks:

Forgive me for bugging you about another "off topic" issue, but I have an
issue here that is driving me nuts.

I'm working with the new laptop that the University just got me, and I need
to know how to disable the touch-pad mouse.  The computer is a Dell
Lattitude 610 laptop.  I'm using Jaws 7.0, and the operating system is
Windows XP pro.

I need to disable the mouse because, as I'm sure you understand, the
slightest wrong move on the laptop where the mouse is gets me off into "no
man's land".

I tried attaching the supplied USB mouse, in hopes that this would over-ride
the touch-pad mouse, but, alas,  it didn't.
