Does anyone here have type 1 diabetes? Anyone with type 1 here who has tried
the Paleo diet or similar?

There are posts in these forums in which people state they have diabetes and
have had success with the Paleo diet, or are trying it, but the type of
diabetes is often not specified. I'm assuming that most of these people are
referring to type 2 diabetes since that is well known to have been treated
successfully with dietary change.

I have relatives with type 1 - some got it as juveniles and one got it as an
adult. They think that the Paleo diet could only help type 2 and not type 1,
because their insulin-producing pancreatic cells are shot.

Dr. Bernstein's book http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com is the only one
I've seen that specifically mentions treating type 1 diabetes with diet. Dr.
Bernarr (http://www.healself.org) claims to have helped type 1 patients into
total remission in posts here, but his posts are the only ones I've found on
using diet to successfully treat type 1 and his website strangely doesn't
seem to mention diabetes (and it does mention some rather unorthodox
treatments for many other conditions, but not diabetes).

The way Ray Audette talks about the diabetes he had it sounds like
insulin-dependent type 1 because he had to take injections right off the
bat, but he never specified which type he had.
