I"ve herad that before too, and one reason I like my J poles
made of 1/2 inch copper pipe. GOod antennas, reasonal vswr
on 70 centimeters as well as 2 meters, and can handle some
power if you've got it.
GOt on 60 foot up a tree here in Tennessee at my qth right
now, (higher than it would be on the top of my tower and do
quite well with it. From the MEmphis area (Just on the
FAyette SHelby county line) I can work Jackson Tennessee
quite regularly, as well as HErnando Ms. and all over the
place with this antenna and a 50 watt radio.
IF I could have found mine after Katrina destroyed my house
I"m sure it still would have been functional. I had one up
in IOwa, same antenna survived two tornadoes, moved to NEw
ORleans, survived two tropical storms, and no doubt hwerever
the wind carried it it's still usable even after Katrina
<grin>.
