I haven't compared them side by side, but I don't think the 2000 is bigger 
at all.  It may be a bit smaller.

The PL tones do not speak.  But, if you turn the multi-channel knob, you get 
a beep at the low and upper end so you can count to the appropriate setting.

I thought the software was free, at least it seems as though it was a couple 
years ago.
