My laptop does that, and it's because my thumb touches the touch pad when
I'm typing.

Have you checked the possibility that this may be due to a key sticking?
The sticky return key on my old keyboard had other users baffled (cursor
'disappearing', large gaps appearing in the text they were typing, etc.)
until I explained the problem.
