Dear Listmates -
If you read labels (and I hope everyone does), even long-time
friendly products - since ingredients can change anytime, you
have probably noticed that a lot of candies now list wheat flour,
glucose syrup (wheat), or wheat germ in the ingredients.
Especially wheat flour. "glucose syrup (wheat)" caught me by
surprise, though.
Many candies that I used to buy, including boxes of chocolates
at Christmas, now show wheat flour, or glucose syrup (wheat),
or have warning that the candy is produced on shared equipment
or in an environment where there is wheat.
So - please read labels thoroughly. I ended up buying those nice
seashell-shaped chocolates from Belgium that have the hazelnut
-chocolate filling, and haven't had a problem. The ones I bought
only list nuts on their allergy warning.
