That's probably the answer. There are 2 distinctly different disk
formats. Newer players/burners are compatible with both types, some
earlier ones are not. Some older domestic players will only recognise one
of these formats.
Which might explain why some disks run on some players but not on
others. -RW is the commoner format, but both types of disks are still
available. I don't know whether one has any advantages over the other. Just
different manufacturers jostling for the market I think.
