Gary,
I have an IC37 and it is rather accessible. I have the voice chip
and it gives frequency and no more. The transceiver is fifteen years
or so old and so doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. Ten
memory channels or so and a priority channel and built in P L
tones. There are discrete buttons for plus offset and minus offset
which makes that part pretty easy, and a "reverse" switch so you can
listen to a repeater input. And that can help make the offset right!!
I have the set: 27H for 2 meters, 37A for 222 and the 47A for
440. There is a history of the squelch and volume control
subassembly needing replacement; about $100 if Icom does it, if they
still have the parts. Otherwise they just seem to go on and on.
Hope this helps.
